About the Album
Piuma (pronounced py-ooma) is the self-titled progressive rock album released on November 12, 2015 through Shining Light Records. This five song concept album (EP) was inspired by the sound coming out of Abbey Road and Olympic Studios during the late sixties and early seventies, with bands like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Bob Marley and the Wailers. The album is experimental since each song has different feel, but is also meant to be cohesive and establish a sound David Small (singer/songwriter) has been "...hearing in [his] head for years."
The Concept and Recording
The concept album traces the formation of a seeker of truth, who opens Pandora's Box, and tries to find his place in the world. Piuma was written, performed, and mixed by Small as a one-man studio band. It was also recorded and produced with 100% renewable energy, which he says "relates to the concept of the album, in that facing reality, I am striving to be environmentally responsible—and one of my goals was not just to make the highest quality album possible, but also one that has no negative impact on nature."
An Environmentally Friendly Record
Piuma and Shining Light Records worked with all the manufacturing vendors who each made a donation to plant a tree in the name of the album, offsetting their power consumption. The album was also made with recycled and renewable materials wherever possible. $1.00 from each album sale is being donated to TreePeople, in order to plant trees in the Angeles National Forest, reforestation project, making this a carbon-positive release. As of 2019, direct sales of $25 or more will allow five trees to be planted through The Arbor Day Foundation. Read Piuma's article about Making an Environmentally Friendly Record, which goes behind the scenes of the creation process.

Piuma is available on a hand-numbered limited edition (12" 45 rpm) vinyl record, compact disc (CD), and digital download at the Piuma Shop.
